Flood Lighting
Spotlights are artificial beams that are broad, high intensity. They are often used to illuminate outdoor playing fields while outdoor sporting events are held during low light conditions. The more focused type is often used as a stage lighting instrument in live performances such as concerts and dramas.
At the top level of many professional sports, it is a requirement for stadiums to have spotlights to allow games to be scheduled outside of daylight hours. Afternoon or evening matches may be suitable for viewers who have work or other commitments at the beginning of the day, and allow television broadcasts during favorable primetime hours. Some sports fields that do not have permanent spotlights installed can use temporary portable ones. Many larger spotlights (see picture below) will have a gantry for bulb replacement and maintenance. This can usually accommodate one or two maintenance workers.

LED spotlights are bright enough to be used for lighting purposes in large sports. The main advantages of LEDs in this application are lower power consumption, longer service life, and instant activation (the absence of a “warm up” period reduces game delays after a power outage).
